PG Super Speciality Entrance Test-2012

Post Graduate Super Speciality Entrance Test-2012 is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility for admission of students to DM and M.Ch courses for the academic year 2012-13
Post Graduate Super Speciality Entrance Test is being conducted for admission to PG Super Speciality courses in respect of seats in Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bangalore, Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bellary, and Institute of Nephro Urology, Bangalore

DM: Cardiac Anaesthesia. Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology
M.Ch: Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Urology

Eligibility: A person shall be eligible for admission to Post Graduate Super Speciality degree courses only if he/she is a citizen of India, has a MBBS degree from a University estd by law in India as recognised by the MCI and must possess recognized degree of M.D./M.S. (or its equivalent recognised degree) in the subject shown against them from a Univerisity established by law in India and recognised by the MCI or any other University recognized by the Medical Council of India and declared as equivalent

  • Has not completed 48 years of age on the date fixed as the last date for submitting the application for the entrance test
  • Has not failed more than twice in the post graduate degree examination
Govt of Karnataka In-service candidates: In-service candidates should apply through proper to appear for the entrance test.


In-service candidate means a person in the service of the State Govt working in the Medical Education Dept in the cadre of Tutor, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the Govt Medical College and General Duty Medical Officer, Specialist and Senior Specialist in Health and Family Welfare Services Department, IMOs with PG qualification, Deputy Surgeon, Surgeon working in ESI(M)S under Labour department, under the control of Health & Family Welfare department and Health & Family Welfare Dept (Medical Education), Autonomous Institutions owned, controlled or managed by the State Govt, whose probation period is declared to have been completed satisfactorily and who has put in a minimum period of three years of service
An in-service candidate shall be eligible for admission to Post Graduate Super Speciality course in the subject of specialisation in which allied Medical or Surgical subjects related to his/her Post Graduate qualification
An in-service candidate shall not be eligible for deputation to Post Graduate Super Speciality course if he is already holding any Post Graduate Super Speciality qualification
An in-service candidate who is prosecuting Post Graduate Super Speciality course on the date of commencement of these rules shall not be eligible for selection under these rules
An in-service candidate who has been selected for admission to Post Graduate Super Speciality course under these rules shall not be eligible for selection on any subsequent occasion
An in-service candidate who is above 48 years of age as on the date specified for the receipt of applications for the entrance test shall not be eligible for deputation to post graduate super speciality courses under these rules

Application Form: Since the applicant should upload their photographs in online application entry, the applicant should scan their passport size photograph (Snapped after 01st April, 2012 with name and date) in .jpg format and make available for uploading with the following specifications (width = 1.3 inches, height = 1.6 inches, resolution = 200 x 200 dpi and the file size should be less than 100 kb)
Click on submit button after finishing the filling of application form
The system will ask for uploading photograph and the scanned photograph of .jpg format file with the above mentioned specification has to be uploaded
An application number will get generated, please notedown the application number generated and demand draft number for your future usage
Take the printout of the filled in application and paste the recent passport size photograph which is scanned and uploaded in the space provided
The print out of the filled in application duly signed by the candidate be sent to university along with the required documents within the stipulated time
In-service candidates should submit their applications through the concerned Head of the Dept and no advance copy will be entertained
Please note that the candidate will not become eligible for attending the entrance test only by online registration
The candidate must ensure that print out of his/her application with all enclosures mentioned in the brochure reaches the RGUHS by 31st May, 2012, 05.00 p.m. by post
The university does not hold the responsibility for loss or delay in postal deliver
Last date to receive the duly filled in application along with certificates at RGUHS by in person is 07th June, 2012 before 05.00 p.m.
The applications without the attachment of required attested certificates are rejected

By Post: Print out of application filled online in all respects along with attested copies of all required certificates may be sent by post for registration to RGUHS, 4th ‘T’ Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore-560041

Candidates should super scribe on the cover as Application for PGSSET-2012
The candidates have to download the Hall Ticket for the entrance test from the RGUHS website from 11th June, 2012

Refund of application fee for any reasons is not permissible

Entrance Test Fee: The candidates are required to pay the prescribed fee of Rs 5,000/- (Rs five thousand only) through demand draft in favour of Registrar, RGUHS, Bangalore

Certificates to be enclosed: The candidate has to submit attested Xerox copies of the following documents along with the filled application form, 
  • 10th marks card for proof of age, 
  • attempt certificate of PG from the Principal, 
  • Permanent Medical Council Registration Certificate, 
  • UG degree certificate, marks cards and degree certificate of post graduation, 
  • demand draft for Rs 5,000/- in favour of Registrar, RGUHS, Bangalore
  • Probationary period declaration certificate (Applicable to Govt of Karnataka In-service candidates)

MCI Relaxes eligibility criteria for Teachers in Medical Colleges

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has relaxed the experience criteria required for teachers taking MBBS classes to be eligible to teach PG students. Earlier, a PG teacher needed to have a total of seven years of experience of which five years were supposed to be as Assistant Professor. The relaxed norms now mandate only a four-year experience as Assistant Professor which means a relaxation of one year. The move is to meet the shortage of PG teachers, said a senior official in the Union Health Ministry. A decision in this regard was taken recently at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the MCI which is an autonomous body under the Health Ministry to regulate the medical education standard in the country.
