The Supreme Court on Thursday sought explanation from six states about an alleged “usurping” of Central quota PG courses seats in medical colleges located in their territories to make them available to the state students. In order to maintain a fine balance for PG admission in all the medical colleges across the country, the Supreme Court had earlier made it mandatory to divide the available seats on equal basis by fixing 50 per cent quota to each Central and state students. Issuing notices to Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, a vacation bench of Justices H.L. Gokhale and Ranjana Prakash Desai asked their counsel to file affidavit by Tuesday next, giving completed data about the state and Central quota seats in the medical colleges located in their respective territories.
