COMEDK to hold separate entrance test for postgraduate courses

Even as the process of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for postgraduate medical courses (NEET-PG) is under way, the State will have another parallel test to be conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). While the NEET-PG will be held between November 23 and December 6, the COMEDK test is on February 3, 2013. Court stay The COMEDK, in a press release in Bangalore Friday, said the decision to hold a separate test is a result of a stay obtained by the Karnataka Private Medical and Dental College Association (KPM and DCA) from the Karnataka High Court, which was later upheld by the Supreme Court. The KPM and DCA had challenged the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) decision to conduct a single entrance test for admissions to medical and dental courses. This means that admissions to 12 medical and 25 dental colleges will be determined by the separate exam conducted by COMEDK. “By October 29, we will come to know the status. If t

One more PGET Notification out, Whats the point of NEET

Yet another notification of PG entrance out.. COMEDK, for private colleges of Karnataka. Read the details here..( COMEDK PGET 2013 Notification out). The whole purpose of NEET was to give relief to the students from appearing in multiple entrance exams for getting a PG seat, yet inspite of announcement of NEET almost all the private medical college associations and other deemed universities are announcing their separate entrance exams. This defies the whole NEET system. On the other place students are confused and the responsible Govt authorities has no proper answer to this. Health ministry pushes for end to sale of branded drugs

Medicines in India may not be sold under brand names in the near future. NEW DELHI: Medicines in India may not be sold under brand names in the near future. In its biggest move to push generic drugs and do away with brand names, the Union health ministry has ordered states to stop issuing licence for the manufacture or sale of drugs on the basis of their brand name. All pharmaceutical firms applying for licence to market or manufacture fixed dose combination ( FDC) drugs will have to submit their generic name and not as brands with immediate effect. The move will substantially reduce medicines' prices. For example, Crocin will cease to exist, and it will be marketed and sold as paracetamol. Drug controller general of India Dr G N Singh said, "We want to gradually move towards a future where we will not issue any brand or trade names. We are going all out to push generic drugs solely for the benefit of the public." He added, "We have sent

New rule by NBE for CET and NEET will keep fake registrations in check

The new criteria introduced by NBE for appearing in DNB CET and NEET will keep the fake medical students and dummy candidates from appearing in these entrance exams. Few days ago NBE announced on both the websites of cet and neet that for appearing in entrance exam, students will have to produce the MCI/SMC registration certificates in original and photocopy to the exam centre. This in my opinion is a good move, as registration certificate can only be possed by medical graduates in India. This will make MBA, and Engineering students from appearing in exam for different reasons more difficult. Recalling the highly publicized cheating scan in AIPGMEE 2012 when some MBA and other non medical people registered themselves as PG aspirants for the purpose of cheating and leaking the paper out. There are many other reasons also why non medical people enter the examination to fulfill purposes other than acquiring PG seat. This move by NBE will bring a halt on such incidences. Visit http

DNB/NEET books publishers may face legal actions, tweeted NBE

Tweeting about NDA (Non disclosure agreement) NBE on its twitter account www.twitter.com/DNBCET said that sharing questions in any way may attract legal actions and such act is a punishable offence. NBE also says that the websites and publishers who publish these contents will also be considered as violators and         may be looking forward to legal actions. On this issues some students are in the opinion of using RTI act, that the memory based questions belong to the students.   But i advice all the students (PG aspirants) at least not to share the questions openly in public forums, which may jeopardize your chances of getting a PG seat. Supreme Court takes over 23 cases against PG medical entrance test

MCI filed transfer pleas to avoid multiplicity of proceedings The Supreme Court on Friday transferred to itself 23 cases from various High Courts across the country relating to petitions challenging the National Eligibility & Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to post-graduate medical courses from 2013-14. As per the regulations announced by the Medical Council of India, seats will be allotted from the National list and State-wise merit list prepared by the MCI. Further, 50 per cent of all PG courses will be filled by candidates selected by the State Government. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, several associations of private medical colleges, D.D. Medical College & Hospital, Tamil Nadu, and various individual colleges had filed petitions in the respective High Courts and obtained an interim stay against the applicability of NEET to them. Aggrieved by these orders, the MCI filed petitions seeking transfer of these cases to the Supreme Court to avoid multiplicity of procee

John Gurdon, Shinya Yamanaka jointly win Nobel Prize in Medicine 2012

Stockholm: The Nobel Assembly at Swedish  Karolinska Institutet  on Monday decided to award  The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2012  jointly to John B Gurdon of UK and Shinya Yamanaka of Japan for the discovery that mature cells can be reprogrammed to become pluripotent. John B Gurdon According to the prize committee, the two scientists discovered that mature, specialised cells could be reprogrammed to become immature cells capable of developing into all tissues of the body. Their findings have revolutionised our understanding of how cells and organisms develop. Gurdon discovered in 1962 that the specialisation of cells is reversible. In a classic experiment, he replaced the immature cell nucleus in an egg cell of a frog with the nucleus from a mature intestinal cell. This modified egg cell developed into a normal tadpole. The DNA of the mature cell still had all the information needed to develop all cells in the frog. Yamanaka discovered more than 40 years later

Problems on first day of DNB CET Nov 2012 registration

Many students reported that forms for DNB CET were finished even before the lunch break on 3rd Oct 2012, the first day of availability of forms at Axis Bank branches. This shows that NBE has grossly underestimated the number of required forms for this session of CET. We received reports for non availability of forms at many branches of Delhi, for example Barahkhamba road branch, Safdarjung Enclave, then at Assam and many branches in South India. This caused a lot of problems and uncertainty among the students. They are also tensed as they fear of not getting the exam center slot at the centers near to their home towns. According to the DNB CET twitter account (@DNBCET) many students are complaining of slots being housefull at almost all the exam centers even before 2PM i.e. 5hrs after the opening of registration of DNB CET. If you faced this problem that is nonavailability of Forms or exam slot reply to this post with the Axis bank branch where the forms are not available or the

Students fume over new National Eligibility Entrance Test schedule

AMRAVATI/NAGPUR: Many postgraduate medical aspirants for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) who went to purchase the examination fee voucher on Monday were in for a rude shock. The number of forms currently available with the specified bank were insufficient to meet the demand. Pranjal Bobade, one of the aspirants, told TOI that "Only 175 forms have been provided to them while there are about 500-600 students appearing for DNB exam from Nagpur alone". The exam conducting body, National Board of Examinations (NBE), has kept the last date as November 10 for purchasing of fee vouchers. This however is not the only controversy which NBE finds itself in. The other exam it is conducting, National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET-PG) for PG courses has evoked a strong response from candidates. Thousands of postgraduate medical aspirants will now have to bear the brunt of what they called the wrong decision of the health ministry to conduct the NEET-PG, two month

DNB CET forms will be available from 3rd Oct 2012

As usual NBE has shifted the date of opening of registration of DNB CET Nov 2012 from 1st Oct 2012 onward to 3rd Oct 2012 onward. This caused hundreds of doctors, who reached the Axis bank branches on the morning of 1st Oct, unware of the changes made by NBE a great annoyance and trouble, not to mention waste of time and money too. Tamil Nadu opposes NEET PG / UG

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today strongly opposed the Centre's move to conduct All India Common Entrance Test for admission to UG and PG courses in medical colleges and reiterated her demand that Tamilnadu be exempted from it. In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a copy of which was released to the media here, she said Tamilnadu should be exempted from this and allowed to continue with its existing system for admission to UG and PG Medical seats. Jayalalithaa expressed surprise and distress over the unilateral decision taken by the Centre without taking into account the protests and in spite of the stay against the Common Entrance Test obtained in the Madras High Court which holds good until it was vacated or until the writ petition was disposed of. Jayalalithaa said the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare had earlier assured that the States would be consulted and their views considered before evolving any policy decision with regard to
