Medicos not happy with JIPMER PG entrance exam

JIPMER has just conducted the PG entrance exam to fill up the open PG seats for the session 2013-14. But many medicos are not happy with the arrangements at the exam centers. Students say that the security arrangements were lacking at many centers and doctors who reached to take exam were not checked for mobiles and other gadgets. Some students report there were other sorts of mismanagement too. Here are some reactions of medicos who appeared for entrance exam: "The JIPMER exam centre in pondy- approx 2000 candidates. Single gate. They start letting candidates in at 9.50. Most of us thought theres some delay, exam'll probably start at 10.30 and obviously end at 1.30. By the time some of my friends enter it was 10:10, a few others even later! Few candidates were already inside and had already started the exam. Paper snatched at 1:00 pm sharp. Exam co -ordinator( a surgeon at jipmer) said its not his fault that so many candidates are in one exam centre, and that we should be...

MCI says no to extra seat at Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College

RAIPUR: After dawdling for over three months, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has turned down the request of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Raipur, to allow an additional seat to accommodate a student who was erroneously admitted in excess of the sanctioned 150 seats for the MBBS course. As a result of the decision, which was confirmed by MCI secretary Sanjay Shrivastava, the extra student would have to be removed, putting a big question mark over his career. According to the college's claim, the unfortunate student was admitted erroneously as the admissions were conducted online for the first time and the staff was not well versed with the system. After realizing their mistake of having admitted 151 students against the sanctioned strength of 150 seats, the college sought the sanction of an additional seat from the MCI. The process was started in October last year and it has taken over three months for the decision to come through. Things appear t...

Health Ministry goes ahead with ‘tentative’ NEET schedule

Even as the fate of the controversial National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for the Post Graduate medical courses for the 2013-14 session remains undecided in the court of law, the Union Health Ministry has gone ahead with a ‘tentative’ schedule for online counselling of students in Government medical and dental colleges from February 20. The Ministry is hopeful that on the next date of hearing i.e. on February 12, the apex court will take a final decision, on whether or not the States’ and private universities can conduct separate entrance exams. It will be after the court verdict that the NEET PG 2013 results will be declared. “The online schedule is to avoid last minute hassle and for the convenience of students,” said a senior Union Health Ministry official. The two-month counselling schedule — beginning February 20 and ending on April 19 — has been already uploaded on the Ministry’s website. However, apparently unsure if the order will go in its favour, the...
